The OnePacs Study Retriever software downloads studies from the cloud and stores them to a third party DICOM viewing application such as OsiriX.   If you are looking for the the Study Retriever bundled with the OnePacs viewing application, see the OnePacs Workstation.

• Operating system:  Windows 8.1 is recommended.  Windows 7 through 8.1 are supported.  Windows Vista is supported but not recommended.
• Compatible with 32 and 64 bit operating systems
• Memory: At least 2 GB RAM. 4 GB is recommended.
• Hard drive space: 50 GB or more free space is recommended.
• Processor: An Intel i3, i5, or i7 processor, or better, or an equivalent offering from AMD, is recommended.

• A MacOS X version of the OnePacs Study Retriever is available. Please refer to the Mac OS X page for installation instructions. The features and functionality of the Study Retriever on Mac OS X are identical to the Windows version.

Upon logging into OnePacs on a Windows-based system, if the OnePacs Study Retriever is not already installed, you will be prompted to download an installer for the OnePacs Workstation/Study Retriever package.

If you wish to download the installer for the Study Retriever only, please open the “Options” menu after logging into OnePacs and select “Downloads”.

On rebooting the computer after installing the OnePacs Workstation/Study Retriever combination, or the standalone Study Retriever, you will be presented with the login screen for the DICOM Study Retriever, which appears as follows:

Please enter your OnePacs username and password. These will be used by the study retriever to retrieve studies from either your facility's OnePacs transmission computer (Gateway), or from the OnePacs central server.

On Microsoft Windows systems, there may be a prompt from the Windows firewall regarding whether to allow the Study Retriever access to the internet. This will appear as follows:

Please allow access on all networks (public and private) to ensure smooth functioning. (The windows warning regarding communications on public networks being insecure does not apply to the OnePacs system, as OnePacs uses only secure encrypted communication channels on all networks.)

The Study Retriever software package downloads imaging studies either from the OnePacs transmission computer installed at your facility, or from the OnePacs system servers. The software package functions in the background and serves to “pre-fetch” studies to your Workstation so they will be local when you wish to review them, and it also serves to download studies on-demand as you select studies to view from the worklist.

By default, the poller will download all studies which have arrived on the OnePacs system within the past three days, and which have not yet been assigned a completed report. The poller will also download any studies that you manually request to view from the OnePacs worklist. If you do not wish to change these initial settings, there is no need to edit the download settings.

The study retriever inserts an icon into the system tray, which appears as follows:

Right-clicking on the tray icon brings up a menu, which provides basic connection information as to whether or not the retriever is connected to OnePacs and to the Diagnostic Workstation, and a list of studies which are being downloaded, which are scheduled to be downloaded, and which have recently been downloaded:

By you can edit the configuration settings of the study retriever.

The preferences panel for the OnePacs Study Retriever may be accessed by selecting the “preferences” option on the study download info window, or by right-clicking on the Study Retriever system tray icon, and selecting “Preferences…”.

The first tab in the preferences window is used to set general download behavior settings. This window allows the user to configure how many simultaneous downloads are permitted, how long the poller should keep local copies of downloaded studies, whether the poller should pre-cache studies (this feature may not be enabled on all accounts), how frequently the poller should check for studies to download, and the worklist query string. The worklist query string is a filter which can be edited according to the generic filter rules of the OnePacs system.

The second tab enables configuration of settings related to communication between the study Retriever and the OnePacs cloud. Other than entry of their username and password to the OnePacs system, users generally will have no need to modify any settings in this section. If you change your password on the OnePacs web-based application, it will also be necessary to change your stored password in the study retriever.

The OnePacs Study Retriever is pre-configured to store studies to the OnePacs Diagnostic Workstation. The default settings are an AE title of OPW, and a port of 44104.

On the “Destinations” tab of the study retriever, is possible to designate one or more additional DICOM destinations for use with the study retriever, and to modify which of these are active at any one time. The tab appears as follows:

This functionality is useful for users who wish to use the Study Retriever with a viewer other than OnePacs Workstation, such as Osirix for Mac OS X. Alternatively, non-viewer desinations (such as study archives) may also be designated.

As studies are downloaded from OnePacs, they will be stored to all destinations which are marked as “active” in this preference tab.

New destinations may be added by clicking the “New” button, which brings up the following window:

The following fields should be filled in for each added destination:

• “Destination Name” - For the user's convenience in identifying the DICOM destination.
• AE Title - The AE title of the destination (refer to the documentation for the viewer or other DICOM device being added)
• Host - The hostname of the DICOM device. For locally installed viewers, this will be “localhost”. For off-site servers or devices, a canonical internet host name or IP address may be entered.
• Port - The port for DICOM communication with the destination (refer to the documentation for the viewer or other DICOM device being added).
• Allow Compressed Transfer Syntax - Allow compressed transfer syntax to the destination.

The study retriever will connect to the destination using a calling AE title of “ONEPACSPOLLER”. It may be necessary to configure the destination viewer or device to accept connections from this AE title.

The “test” button tests communications to all destinations and reports current connection status in the destinations list.

The local gateway tab enables configuration of settings related to the ability of the study retriever to retrieve studies directly from your facility's OnePacs Gateway (OnePacs transmission computer). By default, the study retriever will attempt to retrieve studies from the local gateway before attempting a download from the OnePacs central servers. Downloads from the local gateway will be faster than downloads from the OnePacs central server, if the downloading computer is on the same local network as the gateway. Additionally, not all OnePacs accounts will have the feature of study download from the central OnePacs servers enabled. The download port, username, and password for gateway downloads are pre-set to default initial values. These may be modified if you are instructed to do so by your facility administrator.

The Study Retriever can be configured to automatically retrieve prior studies for a given patient, upon download of any study for that patient. By default, the 3 additional most recent studies for the patient in question, in any modality, are downloaded. These settings may be modified using this tab.

By double clicking on the study retriever tray icon, or by selecting “Download manager…” from the info menu, the download manager window will appear:

The top section of the download manager shows a list of studies which are either actively downloading or which are pending for download. You can drag and drop entries in the list to change the order in which studies will download. You may also start, cancel, pause, and resume downloads. The priority button will pause all downloads other than the selected download, to reserve all internet bandwidth for the priority study.

The download history shows a list of studies which were recently downloaded, or for which download was recently attempted. You can select certain studies to be re-downloaded, for example, if they were deleted from your Workstation, or if they failed to store to your chosen viewer. The view button will open the selected study in OnePacs workstation. The view button currently does not integrate with third party viewers other than OnePacs Diagnostic Workstation.

In the lower right hand corner of the download manager window, there is a “Debug…” button, which produces a file of information related to the workings of OnePacs Diagnostic Workstation and the Study Retriever. Usage of this button is described on the support information page.

In the event that you experience difficulties with the OnePacs Study Retriever, it may be useful to reset the operations of the study retriever as a troubleshooting step. First, consider submitting a bug report by using the debug button. It is necessary to generate the debugging file prior to resetting the retriever, as debugging information will be lost when the retriever is reset.

To reset the Study Retriever double click on the “Reset OnePacs Study Retriever” shortcut which was created on your desktop when the OnePacs Workstation software package was installed:

It may take a few minutes to reset the Retriever if it has been in use a long time, as many files are deleted in the process. After the study retriever is reset, it will start up again and the icon will again appear in the system tray.
